John Parr: St Elmo's Fire rock superstar


DONCASTER man John Parr (born November 18, 1954) is actually from Worksop, Nottinghamshire. But Yorkshire is now his adopted home.
He has worked and performed with some of the biggest names in the music industry, including Tina Turner, Bruce Springsteen, Meat Loaf, Bryan Adams and Cliff Richard.
"Naughty Naughty" was his first US top 40 hit record - with top three positions on every rock radio station in America for up to six weeks.
With David Foster, one of the world's most successful record producers, he wrote and then recorded the theme song for the Brat Pack film "St Elmo's Fire". It was written in honour of wheelchair athlete and activist Rick Hansen.The song became a Number one hit for Parr around the world and earned him many awards, including a Grammy nomination.
He also wrote The Best A Man Can Get - which was reworked for the Gillette - The Best A Man Can Get TV ads

Parr later wrote "Under A Raging Moon" for Roger Daltrey, a song that paid tribute to Keith Moon and told the story of The Who. The album became Daltrey's biggest solo success in America.
He sang the songs "The Minute I Saw You", from Three Men and a Baby soundtrack, and the power ballad "Running Away With You", from Arnold Schwarzenegger's The Running Man.
With Meat Loaf he recorded the smash hit duet "Rock & Roll Mercenaries.
On March 26, 2007, Parr released "Walking Out of the Darkness", a tribute to Doncaster Rovers ahead of the club's appearance in the Johnstone's Paint Trophy final at Cardiff's Millennium Stadium on April 1, 2007.
He's currently touring the UK.
John's son, Ben Parr (19) became an actor and did his work experience on the set of the James Bond film Die Another Day. Ben made his Hollyoaks debut on Thursday 4 January 2006 as male stripper Freddie, the new flat mate of Nancy.
