David Bradley: Kes star Billy Casper

BARNSLEY born David (Dai) Bradley (September 27, 1953) is a British actor who became well-known for his first time role of Billy Casper in the critically-acclaimed film, Kes, directed by Ken Loach.
David, by his own account, he had an unremarkable childhood, and was not involved in any acting apart from amateur Christmas pantos.
Aged 14, he got the part playing Billy Casper, which turned into the performance of a life-time; he received Bafta's most promising newcomer award for his role.
The film required extensive time training the two kestrels used for the film. His subsequent career was checkered, and while he has not received the same kind of opportunity in film again, he has done well-received acting in theatre productions.
David Bradley changed his first name to Dai when joining Equity, the actors union, who already had one actor by that name on their books.

One of the most famous movie scenes in British cinema is the Kes school football match - with the late great Brian Glover as teacher come Bobby Charlton. All the boys were called by their real names - many of them will be at our Yorkshire Tykes Show on Sun, Nov 11. Click on the You Tube link to watch the scene yourself. Enjoy!
